Not much to report - compared to my previous travel blog:
Day minus 1 - the travel day: Mum got quite accustomed to the Business Class lounges. That was kind of fun to see.
Upon arrival (we did it! We flew jetstar!).......
Day 1: wander, coffee, stock up on supplies, swim, read, drink, seafood.
Day 2: as per Day 1. Insert massage.
Day 3: insert taxi to Kuta, shopping, shopping, then as per Day 1, inserting foot massage/facial. And a midnight swim under the cover of darkness in pool #2!!!
Day 4: as per Day 1, minus seafood. Mum is 'lobstered out'. The local marine life breathe a sigh of relief. We had Chinese. With chicken and beef.
The main variations have been the combination of pool, beverage and Crustacea.
Tomorrow - Day trip number two to Ulu Watu temple and Jimbaran Bay for more seafood - once we've been through a quick cycle swimming, coffee and reading :)
Saturday we'll need a rest after Wrestling with the monkeys at the temple. I think it will be a Day 2.
Then - off to Ubud.
Here are some 'highlights'!!!!!
Here is Mum, Day 1. Acclimatizing to the humidity. Now I know this is a temple!! Wasn't sure then!!
Ugly little thing......
Our resort - pool #1 of 3! This one is our favorite. The spa is under cover on the left hand side
Pool #2 of 3. Our second favorite (least populated by bogans - who thankfully are few and far between on this side of the island. Pool #1 was shockingly inhabited by a group of them who had a wooden penis bottle opener, much to Mums horror).
Sigh. Bali brings out the bogan in the best of us. This is me with my poolside Bintang, which matches perfectly my duty free purchase of the shade 'OPI on Collins Ave'. How fortuitous!!
Our resort also has several of these - they are moss-covered and add a lot of character. On the whole, it's great - upgraded to a suite, pools no more than a few steps away, on the beach and surrounded by great caves and restaurants. Quiet :)
......and stunning gardens - everywhere. Frangipani, orchids, hibiscus. Just gorgeous.
More sights from our resort....
Pool #3 - next to the restaurant, the sunken bar - and thus home to the mysterious creature known as 'The Bogan'. In the Balinese wild found wearing a Bintang singlet, swigging a wife beater sized Bintang - opened with the wooden penis..... BTW we found them in the local market and they come in a just fascinating array of shapes and sizes.
Beachfront - we are a short stroll from great seafood, coffee and views over the bay and reef.
With cool architecture on the way....
Praying is a big part of everyday life - these offerings to the gods are everywhere on the street, in shops, in houses, out front of the temple......
Lazing about was great, but yesterday we ventured to Tuban, Kuta, Legian, Seminyak.
Kuta is hideous. 'Nuff said.
The memorial was a bit confronting.
Legian has a great Ham Cheese Tomato toasty - but not worth photographing!
Seminyak - getting more like our scene.
Aaaah. Cocktails, sushi and sunset at Ku De Ta.
......followed by dinner at Hu'u. OMG. OMG. OMG.
It was a really big lobster.
Ok so we were a bit hot and sweaty. It didn't ruin my quiet enjoyment of the OMG-ness.
On our way out for coffee this morning :)
And our hotel by night :)
Evening offerings :)
